I traveled to Novi Travnik in Bosnia in 2010 with Dr. Danica Anderson, a Serbian-American feminist forensic trauma therapist who had been working with Muslim women there in the aftermath of war. Muslims in Bosnia during the war in the 90's suffered great atrocities, and most of the women had lost sons, husbands, family members, businesses, and homes. Dr. Anderson worked with the women in a healing circle she called the "kolo," teaching women therapeutic tools to support and help each other and heal their own traumas with the support of the circle.
